Image: 13 1/4" H x 10 1/4" W. English or American, early 19th century. 2nd & 3rd items: Companion pair pictorial collages of watercolor on paper with cut out paper figures dressed in fabric and needlework. The first image is of a seated lady being served hot chocolate by a servant. The second image is of a woodsman speaking to a seated maiden holding a basket of fruit. Both framed in gilt beaded frames. Frames: 15 1/4" H x 12 1/4" W. Both images: 13" H x 10" W. Continental, mid-19th century.

Unsigned. Housed in a contemporary metallic frame. Sight: 11 1/4" H x 17 1/4" W. Framed: 13" H x 19 1/4" W. Note: The consigner relayed memories of his uncle, Charles Griffin Farr, visiting East Tennessee and paintings scenes like this one in rural areas of town. Biography: Charles Griffin Farr was a painter in the American Realist tradition. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, and studied in New York City and at the Academie Americaine in Paris, France. He spent a significant part of his youth in Knoxville, TN. A graduate of Central High School, Farr returned to Knoxville in 1928 after his time in New York and abroad exhibiting works in the Melrose Art Center, which had notably featured works by other Knoxville artists including Charles Krutch and Lloyd Branson in the late 1920's. A young artist in the late 1930s, Farr took part in the Works Progress Administration programs (WPA) and trained as a restorer of ancient pottery at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Farr also taught at the San Francisco Art Institute for nearly a decade and remained there until his death. Though he spent the majority of his career on the West Coast, Farr often returned to Knoxville to paint the familiar area. Many of these works remain housed in the Knoxville Museum of Art's permanent collection. Farr received the Award in Painting from the American Academy and Institute of Arts & Letters, New York, NY in 1987. Margaret Miller Cooper painted uninterrupted from the age of nine until her death in 1965. She was born in Terryville, Connecticut and graduated from Smith College in 1897. She attended the Art Students League of New York and Pratt Institute and continued her studies with Guy Wiggins, Charles Woodbury, Henry Snell, and Robert Brackman.
Her style was obviously influenced by the Impressionists, and her favorite subjects, rendered in high color, were Old Connecticut homesteads and farm scenes around her summer home in Lyme. She loved old trees, weathered farm houses, oxen and workhorses. In the winters, she frequently painted in Florida and depicted the brilliant colors of sea, sky, and figures. She also painted in Hawaii, Jamaica, Nassau, and Nova Scotia. She was active in the National Association of Women Artists, the Connecticut Academy, the New Haven Paint and Clay Club, the Lyme Art Association, Allied Artists, and the Palm Beach League of Artists.

1920S DUTCH MADE STERLING TEA STRAINERFor your consideration is this 1920s Dutch made sterling tea strainer. The tea strainer shows the sterling stamp and two other Dutch stamps on the right side of the strainer. The strainer features a beautiful repousse design with images of a ship at the top, a windmill and farm house on the right, a house on the bottom, and a church with a windmill in the background on the left side. The tea strainer shows intricate designs in between the images and four faces looking towards the viewer. The handle features a windmill at the top with working, spinning blades. The tea strainer shows good condition overall with a light patina from its age but no obvious signs of damage are present. The tea strainer measures 5" L x 3" W x 1/2" H. The tea strainer weighs 29.2 grams.
